Nearly fifty years after the Grand Trunk Express was introduced, this new train was introduced with much fan fare. It still remains as one of the fast trains between Chennai and New Delhi. It is sill a favorite among the people of the South. It covers the 2200 Kilometers or 1400 miles in 33 hours. It has Ac coaches for the rich and II AC sleepers for the just middle class.
The train is a 'Superfast' train and runs on all days both ways.
This surface transport, the train, remains the quick an cheap transport for all, encompassing the rich and the poor. If one has the time to spare a trip on The Tamil Nadu express it will certainly be memorable experience.. While in India for the foreigners, this is the best transport. One has to be a bit careful with vendors, pick-pockets and thieves. Credit and debit cards may not help at all places, particularly in many good restaurants and shops. Only recently things are changing and the ATM and the cards are coming into vogue.
One thing that is welcome here in India is that many speak good English and understand what one says. So to find one’s way it is possible to get directions easily. Internet facilities may not be available and even then information on places is easy to get. Any foreigner should find proper help from proper people to get things done without getting fleeced. All over India people understand and speak English. So it is possible to feel comfortable while one travels.
